Our new “Cushion 2.0” software is now available, and offers improved control for the Interactor Cushion when used with the BrainMaster EEG training system. The interactor cushion is a valuable addition to any neurofeedback lab. It can be used to reinforce standard protocols, and can also be used to create new protocols.  When connected to a PC’s standard audio output (in parallel with your speakers), it allows low-frequency sounds to be heard and felt, from this lightweight, yet powerful device.  Sensitive, accurate vibro-tactile feedback provides pleasant and immediate rewards for any EEG protocol.  The tactile, “seat of the pants” feedback adds to and enhances the kinesthetic and body sense, and the trainee’s total involvement with neurofeedback training. Because the interactor has its own control protocol, separate from the BrainMaster graphics and sounds, it can be used to provide additional feedback when desired.  The protocol that the cushion responds to is entirely separate from the regular EEG training protocol, and it is entirely up to you how to use it.  For example, during alpha coherence training, the interactor can be used to send vibrations when alpha waves exceed threshold amplitude, providing amplitude feedback information in addition to, and distinct from, the coherence sounds that the trainee hears. Improved 2.0 software now includes the ability to set the rate of vibration between 1 and 12 vibrations per second. This allows you to tailor the feedback for a suitable rate of vibration, depending on the need.  For general relaxation and beta/smr training, the higher rates are useful.  This also provides fastest time response in the feedback signal. Low alpha (7-9 Hz) vibration is good for meditation. For deeper relaxation, or to provide less obtrusive feedback, slower rates may be preferred. Note: Some speakers do not work well when they receive low-frequency sounds. Therefore, using both the Interactor Cushion and regular speakers together may cause speaker noise problems on some PC’s. If this occurs, you may use either your speakers or the Interactor Cushion for training, but you should not use both at the same time.
